[Review] Strong Stuff – AF Stone

First of all I would like to say a big thank you to the author and her publishing house for sending me a copy of this novel.

Strong Stuff is the story of Ruby, a young carer who finds her world turned upside down when her mother dies. She is forced to live with her estranged father on the wrong side of the tracks, where her life as a teenager really begins.

Ruby finds love and friendship in the most unlikely of places – but when forces conspire to take it all away, she must fight to keep what matters to her, at all costs.

I absolutely loved the first book written by this author: “The Raven Wheel“, so when she offered me to receive her second novel I obviously accepted and I was so excited to read it, I prepared myself to get my heart crushed again, though *or did I?*

In this contemporary fiction novel we are following the story of Ruby, a young girl who’s caring for her mum who’s ill. When her mum’s passes, she ends up living with her father. Her father doesn’t live in the nicest area and she has to switch school, so she has no friend where she lives now. Until she meets Leo… who also has a very hard life.

I absolutely loved this novel, and I don’t even know what to say to you to get you to read it! The whole story is as beautiful as heartbreaking! The characters are so unique and so strong. You can’t not love Ruby and Leo (or Bella!). You’ll cry! That’s a sure thing!

In Strong Stuff, the author takes us on a big journey with Ruby and Leo, a journey where the characters have to find a way to save themselves and their future. You won’t regret picking this book up, if you do *and you have to*. I felt sad, happy, stressed, anxious, relieved, angry, mad, extremely mad *I wish I could have slapped a person or two* while reading. Once you get in the story, you just want to know the end, you just want to know what’s going to happen. I was scared to know what was going to happen, after reading the author’s first novel, I was expecting to get my heart broken, completely crushed. But guess what I’m already planning on reading it again!

Last but not least, let talk about the cover! I personally love it, but after I read the book I loved it even more because it makes so much sense once you’ve read the book. The illustrator designed such a powerful and meaningful cover for this novel.
