“The Couple Next Door” – Shari Lapena, buddy read with @_iwouldratherbereading (on Instagram)
Thriller

“You never know what’s happening on the other side of the wall.
Your neighbour told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying.
Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour.
Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone.
You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there.
What would you be capable of, when pushed past your limit?
This was one fucked up read. Very fast paced and addictive, but why? The plot, the plot twists, the revelations… omg.
All through the book you just want to punch so many of the characters. And you just want to tell them how wrong everything happening is… it’s absolute madness.
I’m not a big fan of thriller, but I really felt involved in this story. I needed to know the truth about the abduction of this baby. Why would anyone do that? And what were the different connections between all the characters?
Be aware of the many TW/CWs-
Cheating, Post-Partum Depression, Murder, kidnapping, mental illnesss/disorders, and more.

i’m a huge fan of thrillers so i think i’ll pick this one up for fall time. i totally understand the feeling of not liking characters and asking why they are doing what they are doing. so frustrating. great review!

It’s always a good sign when you want to punch so many of the characters, haha — great review! It sounds like a really intriguing read.

I love Thriller but I couldn’t get into this book (nor any of her others sadly!) I’ve read so many Thrillers that nothing really shocks or surprises me with them anymore and I think I had read too many abduction/children going missing novels to really care about another one. It’s such a popular trope! Glad you enjoyed this though; I know most people who read this author love the books so I’m clearly in the minority!
